Risograph eclipse products

The Eclipse project took place during my third year at University in a class centered around designing and printing with a Risograph printer. The Risograph is a special printer that produces high volumes of printed material and uses vibrant colors.

I was tasked with conceptualizing and designing a product that is themed for the solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024. The product should be something that is crafted and designed by me to be sold at a Risograph convention.

I decided that my product would be eclipse-themed package designs for two foods: Moon Pies and Eclipse Gum.

First Draft

For the first draft of my products (below), I focused on finding a proper layout of graphics and text that was loyal to the brand identities of the original products. The content on the inside provides information regarding the eclipse.

Second Draft

The second draft embraced the idea of a specialized package design for each product. The content now tells the origin stories of each product to signify that it is a 'special edition.'

The second draft also embraces design styles and aesthetics that tie back to the origin of Moon Pies and Eclipse Gum. Because Moon Pies were created in the early 1900's, the package is designed in an Art Deco style. The Eclipse Gum is designed in a 90's/2000's digital style.

Final Draft

The final draft of my project elevated the designs of the second draft and featured the official risograph printed versions. These versions came with actual Moon Pies and Eclipse Gum inside and were sold at various markets.
